Given the way layoffs were handled, I was wondering would we move away from stuff/events which are created just to appease higher management? For example: Not participating in internal Hackathons, charities organized by higher ups, “team-building” offsites, etc Aka anything that gives the upper management feel good/ saving the world kind of mentality. PS: I am not saying to not do the above things, but keep it to a team level, completely isolating/icing the upper management. #layoffs
unionize
The only thing that people will do (not that I condone it) is quiet quitting. Every other "scheme" will fail due to tragedy of commons. There will be some ambitious middle manager who will go against the grain and suck up to higher ups - as they should for their individual growth.
The middle manager will, but folks on the ground/ices don’t have to follow
if you have worked for few years in corporate you should've realized that participating in hackathons is a waste of time. if you have so much free time and energy, make your own app or invest in yourself i don't work on things that aren't beneficial to me. im not doing unless forced work socials unless i have better options. we are all here to just cash a check. you do you
So isolate the people who are paying for it? So I have to pay myself now or we’re still going to ask them for money for a party they aren’t invited to?
Don’t party with them/attend those events. If you really want to party with teammates, go Dutch
But why am I attending all these events if it’s not free? I don’t have time during work hours I have a job. And I see these people 40 hours a week I don’t need to see them in my personal life. If it’s free and/or sponsored by the person who writes the checks then cool, otherwise no
Rebel! I would hope all students stop taking cs as a major and create problems in the labor market.. and if I were a student, looking at how we are treated, I wouldn’t haven’t taken cs Further, I think Indians should boycott America given how badly H1B are treated .. we have to wait so many years for green card wtf.. and now layoffs, no side business..
Where would you say employees are treated better, with comparable pay and cost of entry into profession (e.g. bachelor's degree is enough)?
Own business
