I got an offer from GCP recently. So, I was doing some research and found that the culture at GCP is not same as of Google. Can someone please help me about what's the work culture at GCP india. Also, please help me decide what should I do? YOE: 2 Current TC: 44L Google offer: 42L
Were you downleveled? Why lower TC in offer?
They said this is the max they can offer with this much year of experience and at l3 level.
Are you an SDE1 at Amazon?
So, should I reach out to my recruiter and say that I want to explore other teams?
I have already pass through the team matching round but at that time I was not aware of this culture so I said yes to the GCP team.
The culture shift in gcp is cuz of the lowered hiring bar, heck even I turned down the offer as it was severely lowballed.
Culture shift as in? Could you please elaborate upon the cons a bit more?
I have been passed through the complete Google process of hiring and at the team matching stage, I got an option to select the team. So, how's the hiring bar at GCP is different from that of Google?
Google cloud is the worst group at google
Can you please elaborate why?
Terrible culture, it’s run by a guy that failed at Cloud in Oracle, aws like wlb, its just a nightmare
OP, you really need to prioritize what you have to look for in a job. I’m not going to justify about how GCP culture is not “bad” or if there is a “lowered hiring bar” because that’s highly debatable. Cut out all the noise in this post. Your priorities as an L3 should be: 1) good manager 2) good immediate team and immediate team culture 3) solid projects to work on that can add to your experience. 4) good pay Opinions about macro-culture of an entire org or a high level exec shouldn’t be in your radar. Also note that these are *opinions*. Google has always been a consumer driven company, enterprise needs a different culture. Differences like these take some time to get accepted into the broader google. Different does not mean bad. Also a hiring process change does not imply hiring bar change. All the commenters here can only talk about anecdotal cases where they extrapolate to an entire org about bar being lowered. I would argue that such cases exist in all of google.
Agreed. Blind is generally where tech comes to vent. So there’s an inherent bias for blind readers. People happy at amazon don’t necessarily come into blind and then post good things. They may not even be active on blind.
I have talked to a bunch of people who love the speed and work in cloud after transferring to it. My point is none of this really points to broader statistical data.
Definitely not worth it without a good pay bump
TC split up?
In EU GCP employees don't get basic Google Benifits like free food , they have a seperate block for GCP and 3rf party vendors where they don't provide any "Google" perks . The CEO is from Oracle , why would you do that .. Most of GCP sales is hired through 3rd party contracts I don't even consider GCP to be google
Can anyone else confirm this?
Can confirm this is nonsense.
Talked to a Google recruiter hiring for GCP. Should I find another one hiring for other orgs?
Stay away
GCP is good. Solid growth mode.
Any preparation tips please? Have my rounds coming in like a month! 😅 We're you told before the actual rounds that you were preparing exclusively for GCP? My recruiter hasn't told me anything about it.
I just went through few leetcode questions. Did not prepared anything specifically for Google. No, I was not told anything before the rounds.
Okay, best of luck for anything going forward! Your TC is awesome for 2 YOE! 😁
