I am a PM based in Sweden and am very interested to learn more about the tech culture, salaries, general reviews of Transferwise and Monzo. Want to move to fintech next year. TC : 900k SEK (base)
What industry are you in now OP? What kind of products? For an intro to fintech I think TW is great, Culture is still pretty strong - lots of transparency from leadership - strong culture of feedback and learning - and freedom to create your own path Maybe 800 micro services (since when is this a metric and what does it tell??) - product & engineering team pretty young and excited for the mission Monzo is pretty similar tbh - what locations are you considering?
Considering London only. I'm in entertainment industry (Spotify) right now. Thanks a lot for the detailed answer. Any idea of salary range for Principal PM?
TW just re-did entire careers page, recommend to check out the new content to get a feeling for how teams work - then subtract the happy music, add a keyboard and monitor and imagine yourself playing fetch in between meetings, we have lots of dogs
Culture is still pretty strong == cultish culture But that’s common nowadays actually.
Just have in mind Monzo is a startup with over 1700 microservices. Engineering there sucks. Probably a bunch of millennials on their first job.
What do you think about TransferWise?
Transferwise is mediocre as well in engineering - also very bad cult culture. Mediocre engineers in the helm of managing teams - are fed the dream of - u are the boss, individual teams and other jokes. Product in Transferwise is much better - but again super strong opinions and constant politics :). Like a playground with small kids
