Seen some posts from workmates about culture shift with new ceo. Assessing offer. Is it that bad? What are biggest changes? Is WLB impacted across the board? Are refreshers and promos and career growth gone? Would you still join workday in 2024?
Haven’t noticed any difference. Been around for 3 years. All hubris. People looking for differences will concoct them as being a result of Carl. We had less headcount reduction than the average by far last year and Carl was at the helm as Co-CEO the whole time. And tbh, the 350 mandatory daily burpees has been nothing but a benefit to my health.
LOL What's your location? Are you Ireland based? Wondering if it's geo specific.
Been around for 8+ years. Culture difference before and after Carl are like night and day! Used to actually love coming to work before the pandemic. It sucks now. So much negativity! Everyone trying to fend for themselves. Toxic managers, thankless job. Constant burnout.
This is exactly how it is now!
Lots could be org specific, I know I have heard much from workmates about change in culture and sadness but I believe it is relatively isolated to our reporting chain. More related to a new leader and bad hire within the last year. Workday is still a great company
Literally the same culture
I’m in bay area and the culture is no longer rest and vest. Tbh I don’t think it’s the worst direction but some people are mad bc they didn’t receive as high of comp changes this cycle. High performers are supposed to be rewarded now while low and mid don’t see as much of a raise and refreshers. It’s really happening too bc i know people who got 0 RSU’s as a refresh this cycle. Not sure if we’re going far in the stack ranking direction, but performance is now being highlighted as a focus going forward
High performers are supposed to be rewarded, yes. But there’s a lotttt of politics even when you only look at the subset of high performers (when figuring out how to reward them). A lot of paperwork is needed to prove they deserve the reward and even then, they get pushed back due to stupid reasons like - oh! This person was just promoted last year - they cannot be THAT good so give it another three years for the next promotion. Like - we DO have SOME people who are insanely smart. But the new process in place is designed to keep them unhappy. So I disagree when they say - people who deserve it will be rewarded. That is definitely not the case. Also, Iv’e seen some people only get promoted because they have been in their roles for too long. Go figure.
I consider myself a high performer and I was given a good base raise (15%+) and promo, although still low compa ratio tbh below .9. Mediocre RSU’s though. I know another high performer who said they were happy with their raise. I know someone who was ok this year and given a low raise and no refreshers. So in my team, the messaging and actions taken have lined up
I’ve been here for more than a decade. Aneel had done an incredible job taking us here but the change is needed if we want to take Workday to the next level, imo. I could feel the cultural change but it’s here for the better. WLB is still much better here compared to other firms. I came to workday from a long tenure with big 4 consulting firms so I was not foreign to a 60-70 hrs week. Here in workday, except for rare circumstances, I could count how many times I had to spend more than 40 hours working. So yes, I’d still join Workday in 2024.
First year they are actually making an effort to look at performance and trimming some fat. Hard to tell if it is actually because of the CEO or because enough people complained in our weekly surveys. It is upsetting the underachievers that were enjoying getting paid for marginal work and got raises for being liked by management instead of actually hitting any goals. Is there room for improvement.. probably. Gotta start somewhere.
Is Workday still 50% in office?
Yes, unless role is customer facing
The shift is good. Earlier high performers were paid not that much more than medium and low performers. That was hurting the morale of high performers. The comp philosophy is now changing to kick out low performers quick, keep medium performers light rewards and skew almost all rewards to high performers. So earlier workday was a great place for coasters and bad place for high performers. That’s now changed. And yes I would still join workday in 2024.
Dropped you a dm
I can’t speak for workday as a general but Carl is an awesome guy that will lead to prosperity.
