Should I start learning SQL/Python? Don’t know what kind of field to get into
Google and only 50k? Are u a contractor doing manual QA ?
Bingo. Started beginning of this yr
Damn Google savage.. 50k.. how do you even survive in the Bay? How much rent do you pay?
1k
There are bootcamps. But if you're not already coding for your own side-projects, you're unlikely to enjoy it. It's not for everyone.
Don’t have that much money...
That's been established. But do you have a computer? Plenty of programmers are self-taught. If you really think you might enjoy it, start a side project, and learn whatever you need to build it. Just don't do it for the money, or you won't last long.
Oh shit our nanny makes more
Can I be your nanny
Please hire me as your nanny. I am good with kids (I hope). Do you also need a cleaning lady?
Try Lambda School
Learn as much as you can and try to move out. Most of the times, you won’t be able to negotiate but I got 10% raise just for doing a good job. About 5% in regular yearly. I see low numbers like 80-90K but never this low !
Trust me there are places offering less for contractors. 80-90k I would be very happy
Can you code ? If you can’t, learn. At the same time, I think 1 year at Google with that low pay is enough, find st else or try conversion. Good luck.
You need get out of contractor job and become a FTE.
I was job hunting for about 5-6 months before accepting this job. Not everyone’s SDE like here
So you are telling me there no QA roles in other companies? SDE roles are more but there are many companies with QA roles too. You have to keep interviewing until you find one. Transitioning to dev role is not tht easy. Much easier if you have worked for same employer for few years.
I hope this is a troll post
I wish
Agree with the others. Do some online code courses and build up a portfolio of projects. Then oversell your experience doing QA at google and get fat TC somewhere else. You’ll easily triple your pay in a year or two. Just stay focused and keep on chugging.
Assuming you want to code?
I guess coding is the way to go these days.
