My company's lawyers offered me to try to convert to H1b. Been reading about it but curious if the Blind community also has any thoughts about pros/cons of doing so. I also want to maximize my flexibility in case I come across good opportunities elsewhere.
Don’t get H1B before getting GC. L1A maps to EB1 category.
Every L1A isn't mapped to eb1. Only in certain cases.
Sure?
Yes
What is EB1?
I doubt I fall into the "EB1 Outstanding Researcher or Professor immigrant" category but I'll check what was filed in my app.
Oh - "If you have an L1A visa, your eligibility requirements for your green card fall into the EB1C category. To file in this category, your employer should file Form I-140. At the same time, you can file Form I-485, Adjustment of Status." I know my employer did (or will) file an I-140. Thus it sounds like being on an L1-A makes the process to get a GC easier than while on an H1-B?
Dude, you should've known it by now.
Thank you Blind1186! Based on some reading online eg https://frontsimple.com/posts/L1-vs-H1b-to-greencard/ It looks like it is more beneficial to stay on the L1-A while applying for GC. My immigration lawyer told me this wouldn't impact my green card application -- I'll discuss with her further as it looks like it would (if I were to transfer to h1b before I obtain my green card).
If you are backlogged you cannot extend an L1 with an approved I140 The spouse of H1B cannot work, unlike L1
What does it mean to be back logged?
Each country has a fixed number of green cards each year. Some countries have more applicants than the cap. This creates a backlog. It’s especially long for people born in India.
Stick with L1-A get green card then do whatever fuck you want. Not worth to mess up L1A to EB1 to Green card train!!
Are you about to max out on your L1-A renewal? Has your i-140 been approved? I'm guessing that there must be a time constraint or else they wouldn't be thinking of switching you
There's no time constraint at all! I've only been on it ~14 months and it's good for 7 years.

L1A with eb1 category for GC?
Looks like they filed as an EB-3 for me, not EB-1
Haha
