I am moving to Toronto, Canada shortly and have a few questions: 1. What are some of the good banks? 2. Can folks on a work permit get a photo id and driver's license? How early can I apply? 3. 1. All of them are garbage, at least compared to Europe. TD may be the least garbage. 2. Yes. 3. You should be able to exchange an US license without a test. The number of eligible countries is very limited though. 4. You will need a health insurance for the first 3 months or so, then you can get OHIP. Check if something changed in COVID, you may be able to get it right away.

What do you mean by swap? I will just not have have to give test? I can keep my US license right?
You cannot have both us and Canadian license. You either swap (they take away your us license) or start from scratch to get a Canadian license if you must keep your us one.
If it matters, RBC used to be the only one that let you put usd in your brokerage account without converting it to CAD then back to USD
TD is pretty good
TD is the best, RBC is usually most expensive but also good. TD mobile app is miles better than any of the other big banks in CA
