DS 5535
I went for my H1B visa stamping to Mumbai and was told during the interview that I will receive my passport in 2-5 days. I did receive my passport but without visa and instead was given a white slip that says follow instructions on email. Whereas on the email, they sent me DS5535 form. I filled the form immediately. It’s been a month that I haven’t heard back. Anyone else been in the same situation?

Does 221(g) appear on the form? It takes 1-3 months for the entire process to complete. Sorry OP.
It can take anywhere between few weeks to months
Kind of remember that our immigration law firm shared a list of keywords to not mention/watch for at interview. For example, worked on security mitigation threats, designed threat models and implemented them, white hat hacker (he will only hear ‘hacker’), physics, validated software for satellite trajectories, molecular, biochemical, etc. This was off top of my head, I’d need to look for that email, it was many years ago.
Is machine learning or AI one of them too? Why is that a trigger word for them?

I have been waiting for the last 4 months. Expect to wait 6 months or more to get clearance. There are a whole bunch of folks on immihelp forum who are stuck like us. Its extreme vetting. Do you have a speeding ticket/ common name?
WHAT? You got a DS 5535 too? What’s a speeding ticket or common name? Sorry not familiar with this.
There are a variety of reasons why one can get 5535. If we have a name which is very common in India, then they may want to do namecheck. Other is Technology Alert List which we might fall under. Other can be a criminal conviction in USA
I am working remote for now. Company cant really do much in this situation as this is related to national security. We just have to wait and hope it ll be done by 6 months and not more.
