I just did a poll to collect data from recent Google on-sites. There are some interesting findings that I think are worth sharing. Here is the link to the poll - https://www.teamblind.com/post/Recent-Google-Onsites---lets-collect-some-data-xgPtWYUC . If I receive more data, I will provide another update.ย Sample size - 28. These are from candidates who have made it to HC (either before or after TM) and have received an HC decision. % received an offer - 75%. This number is higher than I expected, so I suspect that there could be some selection bias here - folks who got rejected may be less likely to report a result. Also, it is possible that Google relaxed its HC bar, but I find this unlikely. % went to TM before HC - 39%. We've been hearing a recent change that more candidates are sent for TM before HC, and we see this in the data. Based on what I've read on Blind, this is usually because the on-site feedback was mixed, a new process is kicked in (I do see candidates with primarily SH/H also sent to TM first), or it is for a higher-level role (L6+).ย Offer %, HC-first vs.TM-first - 76% vs. 73%. In terms of the likelihood of getting an offer, I don't see a big difference between those who went to HC first vs. TM first. However, it is interesting to see that 29% of the HC-first group were asked to redo one or more rounds, but only 18% of the TM-first group had to redo.ย % offers were downleveled - 38%. When breaking down this number by HC-first vs. TM-first, we see a pretty big difference - 23% (HC-first) vs. 63% (TM-first). This could be due to TM-first group tends to have mixed on-site feedback, hence a higher chance of being downleveled.ย Another interesting finding is that for those who needed to redo one or more rounds, only 1 in 7 received a reject (from the TM-first group). So if you are asked to redo, you will likely get an offer. This makes me question how effective is the redo mechanism, as it almost always leads to a hire decision. Or maybe it is just because my sample size is too small. Hope you find this useful. Drop me a note below if you have any questions.ย #tech #google
This is after which stage and for how long?
Thanks, this is insightful.
Glad you find this useful! I am in the same boat so I can feel the pain ๐
Got mixed reviews on my onsite for L5 recruiter is doing a HC first. He said they would level me. Not sure if it means at worst I would get L4. Thanks for your time and efforts on this info๐
Thanks for sharing your story! I had similar experience two years ago, it was for a L4 role so there was nothing to downlevel to ๐ so I was rejected at HC. Your situation sounds like a offer, maybe a downleveled one. Let me know when you get the final result! Good luck!
Down leveled to L4
Any idea if HC only cares about current loop+phone results or do they look at the history, profile, references etc?
Loop has the most weight, and then is profile and reference. They know how many times youโve tried, but I believe the feedback from previous attempts are not part of your packet that the recruiter put together.I think they donโt care about the details from the phone round either.
Thanks ๐
I did a re-do and failed.
Sorry to hear that. Did you have a team match before HC?
Thanks, but I'm very happy with the outcome and where I landed! If I had it to do over again, Google wouldn't have been my first interview and I would have lined up some trash places to interview first. That's the biggest lesson. I had one call with a hiring manager and one hiring manager I was supposed to speak with who ghosted. Having no VMWare experience on my resume, the HM told me on the call he wanted someone with VMware experience. End to end the Google process was a shit show.
