Hello, having 14years of datawarehouse skills ( specific using sap tools ) not much programming or SQL skills. Now planning to come out of sap and planning to apply data engineering roles. what should i learn? Is python & SQL good enough? Can i aim higher than my current TC TC: 165 ( 140Base , 25kBonus) YOE# 15 , location :Texas #datascience #python #data engineer #meta #faang
Wait, how are you a data engineer if you don’t know SQL or Python? How do you code a pipeline? Java? C++?
I know what you are thinking. Like i said, sap dw has ABAP ( advanced business application programming language) - sap owned. but again, its all tool based. think of tableau/power bi. There are prebuild extractors by sap, we need to have functional knowledge of using them and enhancing them. i have basic SQL and programming language but not vast. By next 3 months i shd have some basics around python. :)
I think that you’re in a low cost of living area with a huge salary. I think you should be pretty happy where you’re at. I don’t think it’s fair to compare your experience to data engineering; you’re not going to find much higher salaries than where you’re at with your background. I’ve been writing Python for 5 years and I’m still terrible. Tell me your secrets.
