As the title says, I’m considering becoming an AWS TAM after having ran a BI/DATA team at a top company. I’m hoping to get closer to the revenue. Career wise, am I limiting myself by going into a support org?
You will be changing directions , what do you think has better long term career prospects ? What exactly did you do previously ?
I’m uncertain on the career prospects. I ultimately want to gain more product/sales experience for starting my own company. And previously I started a BI team, leading the build out of all data systems and reporting that came through that team. What are your thoughts?
If you eventually want to start something then don't you think Product manager route is better?
I’m just uncertain how to make that change. Any advice?
Depends on your personality type. Have you done sales? Do you like the AM types you've met? If so, you might like working in sales. PM experience will help you deliver a product or project within a timetable and make good predictions of how long tasks will take. Sales experience will help you wrangle prospects, clients, and potential investors once your product is ready to go to market. Both are very necessary for a successful product business. Regardless of what you do, you'll still have to learn a ton when starting your own business. Also, be advised that B2B sales for a product with established name recognition and good marketing is a totally different job than B2C sales for a product that has no name recognition and a small marketing budget/team.
AWS TAM has nothing to do with sales
