I got an offer from Bloomberg and I'm interested working in Data Science/ML related fields. How can I get a team in such fields? Offer: new-grad software engineer 131.5k base + 10k relocation for 2 years + 13.5k bonus
-1. Don’t work for Bloomberg.
It’s a legacy company — the people, the culture, the technology, and the product. Half the business people wear suits daily for no reason. The system tracks when you come into office and when you leave and emails the report to your manager. Don’t work for Bloomberg.
Wow I didn’t know they reported your hours in the office to management.
Bloomberg encourages people in frontline development teams to use data science and ML. Unless you are an ML superstar, that is the way to learn. The company’s avaailable Instruction on fintech techniques for ML is the best in NY (for people new to the field)
Are you working at Bloomberg?
I have worked at Bloomberg
Offer or GTFO??
I didn’t realize we were already giving new grad offers for next year. Just talk to any dozens of teams that do that sort of stuff while you train. If they are interested, they will get you on their team.
It’s a good time to join if you are interested in this since Data Science has picked up rapidly. Some teams are still early in leveraging ML, they are pushing hard and are extensively training so you will get to work on new stuff. Just make sure you make your preferences clear so that you talk to the right teams.
My recruiter said there aren't any open positions in ML teams right now. Should I accept an offer and hope that I'll get such team during training or Should I tell my recruiter that I won't accept the offer unless I get the work I like?
Have you been at BBG and got into the desired team?
