Georgia Tech - master of Science in Computer Science in Machine Learning (School of Computing) Vs. University of Michigan - master of applied data science (School of Information) Which one is more reputable? Without considering cost and format. Both are online
I did omscs and it was great and 9k for entire degree. Umich will be much more expensive.
Omscs is not in data science or machine learning, right?
OMSCS offers ML, DL, RL, CV and NLP (starting in Jan) for ML classes. You can also take 2 classes from the analytics masters.
I’ve heard way more people talk positively about GT (I’m starting in January).
If you want to be an analyst, get the DS degree. It's a garbage degree in general, and only offered so schools can make $$ off the hype train from a few years ago. Get the CS degree so you have something actually valuable.
I’d also like to suggest Harvard Extension School, while it’s a lot more expensive than GT at $3k per class x 12 classes = $36k, you get to sign up for Harvard College classes so you’ll take classes alongside Harvard students and grad students! Pretty neat and I enjoy it so far.
I have done the GTech one, the content is good but nothing that cannot find for Free somewhere else. Said that i do recommend because some places still require masters and this one is cheap and has a good school name
Can’t beat the school name/ price combo. Best ROI I’ve seen along with maybe UT Austin’s Data Science program (10K). Starting OMSA next semester
@crowdstrike UT better than GT? GT is cheaper than UT program
The degree and where its from is irrelevant. Get the degree which is cheapest. Focus on leetcode, stats basics and networking.
I'm graduating from GT with that degree in May, if I could do it again, I would choose a program with a larger influence on applied. I think the results of the poll are likely skewed because more people do the GT program and therefore vote for it.
That price is practically unbeatable. Especially for the type of brand name within SaaS/ tech.
Gtech is way better. Way cheaper and it’s real CS. Bigger factor is definitely that it’s cheaper. This is a no brainer
I was one of the first in the UMich cohorts. I felt they did a good job, but I can’t speak to any developments in the last year or so, and don’t love how MOOC-y it is becoming with their acceptance rates. Didn’t go crazy in depth on stuff unless you wanted to specialize, but gave you a great foundation for all major topics in data science. I’ve used nearly all of my skills in my day-to-day career, so I do think they are relevant and presented in a practical application lens. I’ve had chances to dive deeper either on my own, with peers, or with professors, and my base understanding from school is strong enough to support it. Even got a job I love using networking from the program. I used to be a data analyst and this went well above and beyond what that job description entailed, certainly falls under data science. If you apply yourself, you’ll learn a lot. If you half-a** it you’ll get an expensive mooc. That said, it is definitely far more expensive. So I suppose it depends on what makes you the most comfortable financially and where you want to go with your career and what kind of data scientist you intend to be.
What is the tuition fee at both places?
UM-38k GT-6.5k
GT only 6.5k?
