https://link.medium.com/FGLe5TNzerb Do these salaries look accurate? I am a Data engineer just curious to see if a switch is worth it in DS. TC - 180k YOE - 5
Seems to be lower than what I’ve seen (New York City). But probably on average it is accurate.
Averages sure. Faangmula not average. I am sure a data scientist at a 300-500 ranked Fortune 500 would fall in line with these numbers.
Oh also worth noting the article is looking at average salaries. At Meta you would have a bunch of stock and juicy bonus on top of that.
It's not very clear if the article is talking about base pay or total comp
Very true but I’d say it has to be base since TC can vary wildly
If it is just for money, it is not worth IMO, both should be paid similarly and since you already have YOE in DE you should stay to avoid resetting your career trajectory. Title: DS YOE: 4 TC: 400K
So low maybe they’re quoting entry salaries
They are likely referring to base compensation. The salaries look hilariously low
Interviewing at multiple companies based in NY I can personally say the average for 3-5 years experience is $130k-$175k on the base
Username checks out. I am also an enjineer. enginear. Ingineer. I'm good with numbers.
Agree
What is data science.
Clever!
No, these averages look super low for Meta and other FANG Also averages are not helpful to look at since YOE and leveling are huge factors. Check levels.fyi for most accurate data I’ve seen
Levels.fyi doesn't have data for Data Engineer and Scientist... isn't it?
The post has a YOE breakdown though. But I agree with you. The information seems low.
