My friend who is completing Masters in Computer Science has been offered Data Scientist role at entry level in one of the big tech giants subsidiary in Europe. My friend has lot of great internships and paper published based on his/her research work so far. Question - is this common that Comp Science Graduate joins at entry level or a level above that? What is the total compensation/range that one must expect being in Europe for Data scientist position?
Competing masters from US? if yes, why don't apply in US?
Yes they join at entry level. Up until just a couple of years ago (before the Bologna treaty to enforce universal degree system across EU went live), university degree was 5 years, called 'Diplom' and regarded as equivalent to Masters. There was almost no concept of a Bachelors degree. Infact Europeans (outside UK) still call a Masters degree as an undergraduate degree. Most folks who go to a university end up with a today Masters, even tough there are BSc degree options available too now. So fresh MS degree holders get hired at entry level.
Does anyone of you know the entry level base salary offer/range in Big tech companies in Prague CZK? I heard the cost of living is low there.
You should speak to people in Microsoft who've moved to prague from seattle. I know a couple of them who have. Don't know them well enough to connect though.
I recently interviewed in several companies in Germany and usually the salary was in 52-68k euro range per year. I am graduating soon with Masters in CS. The numbers are not from FANG though.
Is this pre tax or after tax?
Thanks for sharing. If you could share is this with tax or pre tax + what about bonus and stocks?
