Heard databricks is ready to IPO. I am told the expected market cap indicated to them by IBs is north of $100B
uh, you sure it’s not $10b? Or they’re talking about 10 year projections
Uber's IPO used to be 120B
That sounds insane and far off from the numbers I have heard.
Anything possible in these days
but what will the market cap be when the lockup expires and the trading window opens
I do think that Databricks will eventually be a $100B company (3-5 years if we can continue to execute). If we IPO at $100B, I'd be seriously worried about the economy, but it doesn't seem so farfetched given Snowflake's IPO.
We need to be heads down and execute and not get distracted - and we are on track for those kind of numbers - in 3-4 years - we are already significantly higher valued than the last announced value and have the same very strong (historic) growth chart and an even better product story than Snow. Wait and watch! To put things in perspective this modern data platform market is large enough for 2-5 $100B companies and our AI capabilities will be the long term winner - each and every piece of software and business process that you and I ever interact with in 10 years will have a back end of AI and ML similar to how every web site is powered by one of 2-3 search engines in the back. And we / DB will be behind a large chunk of those applications, business processes. Even as of today when you interact with some of the top consumer brands in the world and North America - the analytics behind those are powered by DB already. It’s like the Oxygen of the future - everyone needs it !

That’d be insane. They’re currently valued at $6.2B
Snowflake was valued at 12b
6.2B was based on the last round of funding a year ago. 10+ now, I'd expect. Probably 20ish by the time we IPO. 100B is definitely way off. Can happen in post IPO buying madness ofc, but that would honestly be ridiculous within the next 5y - as is Snowflake's current number. We're both great companies, but neither of us are that great yet.
