Recently received offer from these 2 companies and couple others. It seems both have sizable addressable market , both have pretty good revenue growth ( ~100% per year) Cash are comparable (~230k) and equity wise lm expecting 1.8m - 2m in value Databricks: Pros: very hot at the moment, less risk Cons: Senior level position, less upside from 28b as it already seems to be high Confluent (still giving options) Pros: Staff level role ; more room for upside since the valuation is still low (probably easier to go for 30b compared to DB from 28 to 90?) better WLB Cons: equity is given based on an estimate of 10b, which I have no way to verify but I do think it’s fair statement; higher risk I’m more of looking for equity upside in 2-4yrs Current TC: 500k

How many yrs at FB?
Is Confluent still giving options for equity? How did you estimate the total value
Yep. I was projected company worth $10b very soon so I’m using that number but let me know if think differently
Wait but they are currently valued at 4-5B right. Shouldn’t you use that to estimate growth? How many options did you get
Looking at pure numbers, I trust Databricks to become 50b company more than Confluent to become 20b, but if Confluent is still giving out options, you might need to get 1.6-1.8x depending on your strike price instead to get the same money.
I should mention the number for Confluent is already projected number for the equity gain based on 10b. ( so no need to subtract strike price)
Do you mind elaborating a bit more on why you think it’s more likely for Databricks to 2x compare to Confluent ? Thx!
What do you guys think of the factor on leveling. I’m a little worried about restarting as L5 would slow me down in career trajectory
yaah, good point. you wouldn't want to slow down career trajectory in exchange for retiring early. Much better to go up to director or VP level and working hard than sippin mai tais on beach in thailand.
Confluent L5 is equivalent to FB L6 (Confluent starts new grads at L2 and Facebook at L3)
If databricks was before current funding round the answer would’ve been clear. What about wlb at both places?
I’m still given the same number units as before . So you think the answer is clearly Databricks
Oh but what’s changed then? Strike price?
How many shares you get from databricks?
Why do you want to leave Facebook (and the $$$) for either of these companies which are still not public?
Did you compete for the Databricks offer? What was the original number?
No way we provide 2m for senior and staff. We give dollar denominated equity now.
I think op means it is valued at previous round?
Could be in negotiation before the funding round, these offers are still based on old valuation, which now is around 2m

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
2m stock for databriks senior seems high, have you already got the number?
Yep .this is a range but they are trying to give staff band to compete and I’m using the new $177 share price I guess that’s why it looks high
if databricks' offer is with 2m RSU that means a TC of 730, not including post IPO upside. If that's actually the case and they're offering that much I'd probably go with databricks. I just don't really see how Confluent can become a very large player with just Kafka and Co.
