Is meta really worth the wait?
I'm stuck in this situation where I don't know what or how to prioritize what I should do. 1. I don't like my role/team at Apple and it's a dead-end for my career 2. Received a competitive offer from Amazon 3. Apple initiated the GC process here (I've completed <1 year on my H-1B). Only the LCA has been completed so far. The advertisement and PERM process has not happened yet. YOE: ~2.5 Should I try and look for opportunities within Apple? Or should I not bother and prioritize learning at Amazon? I like the work and tech stack on the Amazon team. Any comments to support your opinion on the poll is highly appreciated! #engineering #software #swe #apple #amazon
Since you have lot of time on H1B and GC process isn’t very far, don’t give any weight to that. Go anywhere that makes better sense for your career. If that is Amazon, then so be it.
Sooner you get i140 approved...the better it is....I was in similar situation as yours, my GC (PD July 2015) got delayed by 4 yrs. I had to put up at one place till I got i140 approved. It was stressful situation in my final year of h1b
Right. How long does it take from LCA through I-140 from a timeline stand point?
Around 12-14 months
Don't go to Amazon for green card, that's a terrible idea. Though they do sponsor it, if you get pipped (and you will) they pause the process. If you fail the pip, you have like 60 days to find a new job to start all over.
This is reasonable. Before GC, you need optimize for GC and H1b stability than other things like your personals Once you get it, optimize over others.
I'm not going to Amazon for a GC. I want to learn early on in my career, which is stagnating at Apple (on this team). At what point would you optimize for your career aspirations and growth? After a few years of useless work aren't you setting yourself up for failure for future growth?
