Accepted Google offer 3 weeks back T4 . Been with Amazon for 3 years(total 9yr ex) and thought of looking for change . I liked oppurtunity in Google cloud and also the perks + prestige. However did not have any competing offer to negotiate. My manager just recently told me about my rating (TT - top most) and mentioned about putting for promotion for SDE2 to SDE3 this quarter. Director is also vested in because of highly visible deliveries. Also principal gave some good written feedback. Making my case solid for promotion. They are not aware of me looking actively outside. My comp will match what Google offered in April itself( with my recent ratings) and certainly increase drastically with promotion. Can I re-negotiate at this point? Can I decline, if so am I forever blacklisted from Google ? Current comp 228 total (130 + 98k stocks) Google offered 250 total(141 base + 15% bonus + 90k stocks) plus a 30 k sign on - Seattle I anticipate comp to get around mid 240s in April. With SDE 3 it starts from 270k ish.
Think about culture and if work life balance is important to you. A little bit extra here and there won’t matter in the long run as other things
Doesn’t google give much more stocks on hire ? However they have great annual refreshers which is something to think about
Don't do it! Boomerang instead so you at least have the other experience. You could like it more.
+1. Especially if you manager an principal knows you well they will hire you back at 6. Go for it.
It's always business. Do what's best for you now. People are not blacklisted for rejecting comp. They will not pass an awesome talent like u just because u didn't like their comp in past. Be aware that a company can also reject the candidate even after offer and acceptance.
Stay and get promotion and reapply to google one level up
I did the same. They'll understand - happens all the time to companies at that size. They'll likely leave the door open for you! Be nice , and explain to the hiring manager what changed
You don't need to decline Google.. their offer is available for a year if this rule has not changed. With that said you can decide to join them anytime in a year but of course need to have a team match. You can confirm this with their recruiter. But T4 is a bit low for 9yr exp.
I've had some similar conflicts. Considered recinding acceptance due to family reasons. Moving to the bay seemed like a 40k hit after rent and other expenses. My advice is this: the further down the hole you are the greater the confidence you need to have in your goals. You can always change your mind...you are free! And suffer the consequences. These goals should be less about money as the reputation risk increases or you will have regret. That's my rambling thoughts.
There's no such thing as blacklisting. Politely decline and explain your situation. Even if the recruiter is mad just be nice and move on. Chances are a year or two later Google will come calling again.
I don’t have a good answer for you, but I’m in the same situation. Good luck.
With Google ?
Yes.
