The works of people at DeepMind seems pretty cool imho, and it seems dumb to force them to focus on LLM. And Gemini seems like another Google Plus… Any insider interesting story to share? https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/04/googles-ai-panic-forces-merger-of-rival-divisions-deepmind-and-brain/?utm_social-type=owned&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_brand=ars&fbclid=IwAR1GON68Mot_4Iw4fOu18uH7i9mOfm6Almm1qULy3D3rJuV1IYZ5CwIFsyE
Deepmind was focused on general research. Google now wants to use them for its own personal gains. They can do that, but kind of also now says Deepmind would not be doing the old good research they have been doing as well - which is a sad thing to see.
Yep, exactly this. This shows the leadership either do not understand the difference between basic research, applied research, and engineering, or that they do not care. Either way the smartest scientists will see the writing on the wall.
💯
Google can control deepmind brand, but employee will vote by feet.
They fucked it up.
