Im in early stage interviewing with Twitch and was wondering how is it going over there? Read a lot of reviews on Glassdoor for current employees and it wasn’t looking good. I want to avoid another toxic and political workplace. Thanks!
UX Design? It’s solid. Generally the designers are good. They’re nice people. Leadership is a little rocky at times. The new design system leader is a very helpful and sweet person. Weekly all-design crits, typically decent support from the wider team but some managers are better than others at managing their teams. The SF office is super nice, the Seattle office is just an adequate corporate office with better than amazon/not as good as SF perks. Some PMs and/or partner teams are difficult to work with, some are great. It’s helpful to be a gaming dork but not required. I would say Twitch is weaker on the visual side and stronger on the UX side - but lack of focus and occasional radically misguided product ideas don’t land which results in churn or fast sun-setting. There have been some really great results this year in the site redesign and the announced first-party streaming app. (We’ll see about adoption as we go, however)
I second this
Is there focus to have more impact on the visual side?
My experience in engineering has been pretty positive. Twitch’s biggest problem is that their leadership is pretty bad. Other than that, it’s pretty good.
How bad is leadership? Aka does those leadership effect ICs?
From what I heard it really depends on the org. Nice thing is some orgs are pretty silo’d and its more on if your leadership leader for your org sucks or not.
