I have a CS degree and currently working as a UX Engineer. I mainly do prototype work so rarely write production code. Is there a path forward for a combination engineer / designer at other companies? Should I focus on either engineering or design with greater focus?
For on engineering, then move to a smaller company.

Plenty of startups would happily run prototypes as "production code", you'd probably benefit from that more than doing non production stuff at a major firm.
