Sr. DevOps Engineer (billable, consulting. Typically delivery but have led large workstreams as well) Comp: 175K base + $3500 annual bonus + 100% of 6% 401K match + other bennies. No other bonus or RSU. * 13+ yrs enterprise experience - k8s, ansible, TF, AWS, azure, vsphere, RHEL, etc * BS IT, MS CIS * RHCE, RHCSA, CKAD, CKA, OpenShift and Ansible certs Permanent remote worker in low COL city. Minimal travel. Asking because currently salary capped with minimal room to grow as individual contributor. Tech company, ~15B revenue. Not VMware. Edit: updated some missing active certs and a more clear picture of current cash bonus
most people probably didn’t read far enough to see the low CoL part.
Vmware pays pretty shitty. You gotta bounce. SREs get paid a lot. Their skill is vital and essential
Good base but overall low TC for 13 yoe
2% profit sharing...how big is this number?
It fluctuates, but over the past several years it’s been about 3500 before taxes.
Decent base but no RSU or cash bonus is missing to a solid TC. a 20k/year cash bonus and 60k/3yr RSU would be a reasonable ask from where you are
Awesome, thank you. A large chunk of my background has been Red Hat (rhel, ansible, RHV, satellite, openshift). Any insight on consulting WLB? Pretty decent or is burnout heavy?
You can get 250k TC easily if you work for California based company
If you know some software engineering concepts and can code halfway decent, pretty good shot at over 300k TC as a fully remote IC5 PE at Meta
What is the annual profit made? What if the company do Amazon-style zero profit?
Sorry about that, it’s generally around $3000-3500 pre-tax annually. Updated the post for most clarity. If we had an unprofitable year, I imagine it’d mean no bonus.
10% x base salary bonus is pretty standard. some companies do much more than that.
