Wondering if anyone here worked at a recent IPO (like Coinbase, Roblox, etc)? If you’re a run of the mill IC employee (not senior leadership) did you actually make much more money than if you worked at a FAANG company? Coinbase stock seems to have gone down quite a bit since the IPO.
Yes
Lol ummm yes
When did you join? May I ask how many times you got on top of you initial grant?
I joined in may 2017. Stock options at $1.6b valuation. Roughly a $3 strike price. You do the math
Haha ya
Lol even with stock down a regular IC got a 7x bump in TC. 400k RSU is 2.8M easy even with the massive stock blow.
what factor is more relevant to join a preIPO to be rich? I got a Databricks offer with 28b valuation $177 stock price, and not sure it will still be multiples. I guess those who made many times bump joined when valuation was not too high?
Sometimes you gotta be lucky. I got a 4x bump with DoorDash when it had a 16B valuation, no one thought it would go 45-60B. Coinbase valuation no one thought it would go 8B to 64B. Databricks seems high at 28B but who knows maybe it’ll go 100 and get you a 3x bump. Then you have Lyft and Wish and Poshmark where their stocks actually went down by a lot and then other companies like Uber which were stagnant.
