Seems to be a huge windfall for Disney: they offload a billion in debt to the State and get a HUGE tax cut. It appears that they made no effort whatsoever to oppose the bill, despite their lobbying clout. In fact it sailed through without any debate. So while DeSantis was publicly presenting it as an attack on the company, did Disney secretly use their political might to get the bill passed quickly? It seems like DeSantis has gone full swamp. Feels like Florida voters and tax payers got played.
How does Disney get tax cut? You’ve drank too much MSM koolaid. Disney will have to deal with a ton of new city, county and state regulations plus tax. Disney is so fxxxed up that it’s been rumored that Bob Iger will come back to save this sinking ship. And it’s very obvious why Disney didn’t lobby. This bill is unstoppable, and Disney has made itself the enemy of Florida GOP. Lobbying Florida GOP would give more evidence to GOP, and certainly put Disney in a bigger PR or even legal trouble.
They are getting a massive tax cut. They pay a much higher rate under the special district than they can legally be charged by the county. Florida law limits the taxes a county can charge and the equal protection clause prevents singling out a single tax payer within a jurisdiction
Doubt it was intentional, more that DeSantis didn’t know or care about any unintended consequences that might actually impact the citizens of Florida as long as he got the PR win by sticking it to “woke” Disney.

The special tax district was itself a tax break for Disney since it allowed them to operate as independently as a county would. I guess they didn’t lobby because they knew the bill’s passage was a foregone conclusion, and because they had already severed lobbying ties with Republicans following the fake outrage over the parental rights bill.
