How much you need for nyc?
It’s a bit low, but till you get a better offer your time is only worth this much. Hence, you’re not being “lowballed”. And yes, you can survive on 150k in NYC, just need to be mindful of your expenses.
What should I make in NYC?
Look into a park and ride to NYC. There's plenty on route 80. Some peeps commute from as far out as Poconos. This way you don't have to move for a while, nor would you pay city tax. How often do you have to be in? 3x/week?

You should live in suburban jersey, Secaucus, Harrison, Union City, Weehawken. JC waterfront is also NYC rents now at Newport/Exchange Place
200k+ to live somewhat comfortably in NYC. At 155, you won't qualify for some apartments

Keep in mind you will have to pay NYC tax if you live in NYC with state tax at 155 you’ll probably be somewhere around 5.5-6% for NY then 3% for NYC and federal taxes on top of that your take home will probably be around 100k before insurance and retirement costs the then you will have to pay NYC rent. Also on top of all that NY taxes bonuses at 11.7% so any bonus you get will probably be taxed at around 40%

4 YOE in NYC should be at least 200k
