Saw a ton of activity on blind regarding special stock awards to close the gap to engineers. Did msft fix the gap when it comes to offers? Hiring managers, are you seeing better offers now than a few months ago?
You want to join or here for 🍿because amazon stock is killing it?
It helped lessen the gap. Many engineers have received 2 special stock awards randomly within the past 12 months. New offers are getting more competitive. I’m personally very happy now cuz I got 2 SSAs.
For some aspects of the company it has helped but there are talented people who make less than a kid with a couple years of experience. Some have learned the hard way not to stay at a company for ten years because the market passes you by very quickly.
Haven’t seen any “kids” working at Microsoft. Maybe you old farts should learn how the tech world works nowadays.
Got an Amazon offer and am wondering if it's worth switching because I'll now be getting a pay cut
Don't switch for a pay cut of course!
I’ve been applying recently and was shocked that my offers from some major companies (eg, Facebook) were substantially lower than what I’ve got now at MSFT. They’ve definitely figured out how to keep me around!
Microsoft offers have been competitive for a long time. The recent SSA's were to close the gap for existing employees who were getting paid less than new hires.
But how are refreshers? I heard your TC drops to nearly base pay levels after the initial 4-5 year grant
That's why they gave out the SSA's with a four year vest for the people who started 3+ years ago.
Depends on level. Mine are generally more than 100k with 25-30% bonus. SSAs are used liberally at lower levels to bump up and then there was the special SSA this year.
I definitely think it's feels much better now. Although I'm going to use this special stock award to negotiate higher salary for my next job ;)
