Hi: I have been having such a hard time finding an entry level PM role and I’m desperately trying to leave my current company. I’ve been experiencing a good bit of racism and micro aggressions from my boss and team, and HR is not doing anything about it. It makes working miserable, it’s impacting my mental health and I find it hard to stay motivated. I am a high performer, with about a year of experience as a PM, but I am really looking to find a way out. Would anyone be open to helping me get a referral and just any advice in general? I’m appreciative of any help in advance! Side note: I’m really thinking about just studying my butt off for a few months and switching over to dev at this point. I’ve had no success. #google #stripe #facebook #adobe #netflix #microsoft #amazon #uber #lyft #bloomberg #datadog #dropbox #spotify #palantir #airbnb #twitch #waymo #Apple #Twitter #Brex #Snowflake #Lyft #Twilio #SquareSpace #Slack #Plaid #Splunk #Robinhood #Nvidia #Stripe #DropBox #VMware #Box #Cruise #Waymo #Tesla #Reddit #Oracle #LinkedIn #Notion #ScaleAI #airtable #databricks #salesforce #square #plaid #zoom #referral #newgrad #jobhunt #hiring #engineering #swe #software #pm #ux #ui #management #productmanagement #product #productmanager
there are way less PM positions than applicants. Think about it- team of 8-10 eng has 1 PM. Is your current experience SDE? I’d recommend trying to get into a company doing whatever you are currently doing and then work to move to PM within that new company
I am currently a product manager at GE. I have my BS in CS but I’m thinking I may need to enter a company as a dev and just move from there if I choose to.
Apply to companies as a SWE or product tpm then internally transfer after a year
The best advice I can give Don't leave because you want to run away from your current company. Leave because you found another company with a great fit. Sorry to hear about the current situation. I've had issues like that before and it sucked
If you are really looking to find a way out, I hope you are looking beyond recognised company names you tagged. With one year of experience, your best bet is to find a chill non name startup and just keep applying to better companies until you luck out.
Why do you want to be a PM? And why do you think you can be a good PM?
