Is it less likely that leadership (e.g. directors) are laid off?
More likely when entire orgs are severed (see pivots) due to misalignment with other open roles, less likely during burn rate reduction layoffs due to ongoing needs for middle management.
Eventually yes, but right now their orgs are thinned out but not gone
If they're all talk and no deed they'll soon get cut
This is so weird. In old school companies I have seen that middle management often gets cut. They keep the ICs because they want people to do the work. executives are cosy with each other so nobody fires them. That leaves middle management.
If they cut the entire department. Otherwise they gotta shuffle around the ICs and unexpected new manager can equal low morale.
