I have an offer from a tier 3 company for Director of PM. I like the role and the team but TC remains the same, pretty similar to my current TC. I dont think there is any long term benefit of going to a smaller company for a title, I have seen few people who were directors in tier 3 companies join Amazon as L6 PM. I have an option of working from a low cost of living city which would give me a 20/30% saving but it requires moving. I am pretty sure that I will turn it down but whats Blind’s opinion? Anyone did the move and it worked out for them? TC: $215k Yoe: 10
If TC is same, IMO, you should choose something that gives better exposure and learning because, in the future that experience would be more valuable.
Yeah, this does have more learning in terms of building team and culture which I don’t do today but I am not sure if it is worth in long term vs focusing on getting L7 at Amazon
Define tier 3? Are we talking SAP, IBM etc?
No, its more like a cloud service provider that has $3b evaluation. Not a target for acquisition, they are doing their own thing focused on middle east region. Not known in US.
Perhaps you could ask for a higher TC.from the other company. Also, are you in Seattle?
Already tried, thats their max for the band. Yes, in Seattle.
Max = no more TC increases in the future. Are you okay with that?

Don’t think too much about Title. Make your decision based on quality of work.
True, other than people management aspect I would still prefer Amazon but want to learn how to build a team and scale it as well which is a plus as a director. it has international exposure as well so thats a plus.
