Just a meme, but also a reality for many companies.

I get so conflicted because so many people on blind day DEI is ruining tech. Which one is it?
"Diversity" is not ruining tech. Plain and simple.
It clearly is
The only diversity that matters is diversity of ideas. Hiring 20% of black staff and 50% of women does not necessarily bring you that. I don’t give a damn about the race or ethnicity of the people hired. And if a candidate overplay his or her racial or sex card during the interview, then he or she’s not a good fit.
Where do you think ideas come from? 🤡
Clearly ideas come out of sabamil’s a**.
All for diversity so long as it’s based on merit. I for one don’t want to get on a flight piloted by a diversity hire pilot. I urge all who have the attention span to seriously read Thomas Sowell. I feel really bad for folks who are absolutely amazing at what they do (I have worked for/with several) but, being of a certain race/gender etc. are perceived with dislike by others as being a diversity hire. On a practical level, I’ve been on several botched sales deals where at the last minute someone who was a DEI hire was brought in to blithely blow things up while others around them couldn’t do any thing for political correctness purposes. Would love to hear others’ perspectives and experiences.
I am all in for the diversity as long as it is backed by merit. I will not allow incompetent people in my team just to meet the DEI threshold.
Not even sure why you need to say this. Obviously diversity does not = incompetence. Why do you even mention this?
The challenge is that we tend to implicitly and unconsciously perceive certain groups as less competent, even if they may not be. Think about your job interviews. How objective were they? Can you prove with data that they are objective? How about day-to-day work? How can you prove competence objectively, especially for early in career hires where no one really knows what they are doing? Sometimes competence is obviously there or not there, but often times - more often than you probably think - our biases influence us too far in one direction or another. There is a ton of research on this. I recommend reading some: https://d1wqtxts1xzle7.cloudfront.net/51243977/The_existence_of_implicit_bias_is_beyond20170108-30602-cq8zic-libre.pdf?1483869710=&response-content-disposition=inline%3B+filename%3DThe_existence_of_implicit_bias_is_beyond.pdf&Expires=1707065819&Signature=IV34fOA7Cvxpvx~CcKsJoRbwg2DVHRJLFpbk94pJtTWQvRK-Ecqgr-5J7fBFGx9T0r4UZiNCg2hT-th81esO6hJo9GJ925Jtk3jUCcKutWkpFB8Itt~qKk80Ygr1VBzfsG~puvRszciO7qg6EWAu30DKftRhZewVqZjGBoETP9K1KEFN-7rvhtz6huu2blzp5UfAz0xWIDo9I6mL1CrFjDNYFi1QAAY9e3fLy27Ftl8UYbXvSyO~8VmqrORhVIgHZpqG7ws6Oo8VgmKVrivxEToiyHWRmwYjC6xepAwTy4DAzWAax6x0UJdKDYrDIdLsH-hjhj1b4bgkbJ4cpYMjbw__&Key-Pair-Id=APKAJLOHF5GGSLRBV4ZA
