I think it's possible, but I heard it's not the best. Also, is it worth looking at dividends when looking at investments or is the amount so small it's negligible? I did some research and there's something around ETF and vanguards that have focus. But I don't know and I want to hear opinions from people who invest! Thanks!
If you put your money in a high dividend index fund the payout is actually decent.
Have invested in DVY, VYM, DGRO, EFV
Dividend investing as a rule is just an inefficient mild value play. If you want a value play, there are many better ways to get it. Dividend growth is mostly a quality play. Again, better and more diversified ways to get it. Dividends are most a non-factor.
If you get a broad index fund (like VTI ETF for example) then it will own stocks that pay a dividend and it will return that to you in something like a quarterly dividend. If you’re investing for the long term, it’s common to set these dividends to reinvest with your broker, but you could also just use the cash in other ways if you’d like. Some stocks give dividends, some don’t. It’s akin to the value vs growth discussion and you won’t find a universal answer to that here. Why did you hear that it’s not the best?
