Following a heated debate in some comment thread, there seems to be people on one side debating the extent of diversity hires and the other saying they don't exist. Poll? #facebook #amazon #apple #netflix #google #tech #diversity
There are extensive training programs to help you understand, acknowledge and overcome any racial, gender, age etc biases. Never in my career in big companies have I been pressured to ignore performance on an interview because of the above. Once a candidate makes it to the final interview, the interview itself is the only thing that matters.
What are these options they make no sense?
Sry me2 dumdum
Whats that response? I really dont understand the options. Are you asking if diversity hiring is done at companies or if they are done right? The options seems to answer the question why is diversity hiring done.
I wish companies would be more accommodating of neurodiversity. I’ve been unfairly discriminated for my abrasive personality.
I wish companies would be more accommodating regarding motivation diversity. I’ve been unfairly discriminated for my lack of motivation to complete tasks.
maybe spin up another made up disability or practice to get into this: https://www.disabilityscoop.com/2021/08/09/google-launches-program-to-hire-more-people-with-autism/29435/
I thought I was a diversity hire. But it was really just impostor syndrome. My team is 95% male and white, and I’m not that. When I got my offer, I just need to remind myself what the hiring manager told me, “you’re the best candidate we’ve seen in a long time”, “I’m motivated to get you on the team”, “Everyone is excited about you”.
Diversity recruiting and marketing exists; the bar is the bar when it comes to interviews/offers. The goal is to increase upper funnel, not compromise on quality when it comes to filling positions
The goal and reality are miles apart.
As an interviewer and BR at Amazon I have felt no pressure to lower the bar based on diversity. I’ve seen more diverse candidates make it to on sites but from there I’m not seeing any change in process or expectations
Of course they exist. My (female) boss is one
Qualified people with disabilities must be part of diversity programs.
Homogeneity hires definitely do existing.
There are special programs to hire vets/women/graduates from certain schools. General applications go through one process. 6/7 interviews and performance decides then. Also, whiners use diversity/visa/gender as an excuse for incompetence.
Asking a company to sponsor a visa is a bit different than being a minority, especially for more generic positions
There are also special programs to incentivize men to go into nursing and teaching, FYI. Having a working population that isn't all different variations on the same person is generally a good thing.
