The team does the algorithms behind sagemaker. Do the engineers work on the ML stuff? Or is it mostly driven by the scientists, and the engineers simply do testing, deployment, and devops? The ML required for engineers doesn’t seem to be as rigorous as say, “SWE, machine learning” at fb / g. And the SDMs don’t seem to have background in ML either... Any info/opinions from amazonians / people who also interviewed there are greatly appreciated
nope
Amazon SDEs at those so-called ML teams are just plumbers.
Never heard of an SDE doing ML algorithm work, but I am nowhere near sage maker. In consumer we have a scientist job family that does ML.
No. your job is to kiss the “scientist”’s asses and do their crap work and fix their bugs.
Building an ML toolkit isn't the same as doing ML
Stay away from Amazon AI. You have been warned.
Can you elaborate ? I am currently interviewing with them
I know a couple of engineers in AWS AI who are working side by side with the scientists on the algorithms and helping them optimize the code. IMO that's ML work too.
Def led by the scientists, but frankly much ML algorithm development is pretty tedious work, whereas there's plenty of interesting engineering work to be done around productionizing ML algorithms.
SDE do not do ML
No
