Do companies like sales force, oracle, workday, faang ask for W2s and Paychecks before making offers

Was chatting with a friend and he mentioned that Companies ask for W2s which I find it very weird

For FTE, no. Dunno about 3P.

They’ll ask for a W2 if you say “well I’m making 700k at dell and that’s what it would take me to leave”

What the fuck

LinkedIn wTEl38 Feb 20, 2021

That sounds illegal

Salesforce gjshdna Feb 20, 2021

Salesforce didn't ask me.

W2 for background checks yes but they also say blur details like salary. It’s like an option to confirm you work for the company rather than calling them up

Oracle oreoman Feb 20, 2021

It's illegal in US to ask for this. In fact they can't even ask you what you make currently. They can however ask you what your expectations are..

Oracle benhxhrl Feb 21, 2021

This is only for California, the part where they can’t ask your salary. Legal in other states

Google wPeJ53 Feb 20, 2021

They may ask for verification if you ask for a very high number.

Salesforce YYuO18 Feb 20, 2021

That’s illegal, at least in California. They shouldn’t be asking your current compensation.

Google wPeJ53 Feb 20, 2021

They won’t ask directly. It’ll be something along the lines of “our comp team needs more persuasion to go above this number”

Amazon blitzo Feb 20, 2021

For background check, yes they ask. But you can redact any information you want. The only thing worth redacting is the compensation.
