Hey everyone! I’ve been trying to get into Tech for the past year, specifically in a product marketing/senior strategy analyst role. (I like the idea of marketing cuz it’s more aligned with what I currently do [and you get to build customer segments and define a customer]) I’ve interviewed at FB, Doordash, Blizzard.. etc and haven’t landed an offer D: I currently work in automotive, and it’s been tough to transition into tech. I currently do Strategy and Ops/ market research for an auto company but I lack exp like UI research, wireframes, app development etc. What should I read/take classes to gain a competitive advantage? YOE 3
I think the problem is straightforward. You threw words like s&op without explaining. Almost as if you want people to read your mind.
Haha eeppp! I edited it. It’s strategy and ops.
If you want senior position, you need to be really articulate. You have to understand your audience and communicate effectively. That's the secret sauce IMO.
Literally had to Google S&OP. Could you try a mid-size tech company in a prod ops role? Might be a better fit for your experience and a solid foot in the door
Haha yeah I realized s&p could mean anything! But yeah I haven’t really tried but I heard that they require more “product management” experience. RN, I’m just trying to get into a product management/marketing role but it’s been a battleeeeee
I dont get it what are you trying to get in? Infra? Support? Devops? PM? SWE? Wtf is this
Haha I’m trying to get into product marketing! Or senior strategy my friend!
Finding a job has been impossible these days. I work in tech and it’s almost been a year since I could find a job
Ah thanks for the comforting words. Glad you got an offer though
If you lack exp, then you wouldn't get the interview. Mostly if you're getting interview, mostly you're qualified. Now practice pm interviews. Read posts on blind about pm interviews. Practice in companies which you're fine rejecting first then your target ones
Thank you! Ah I think that’s what I gotta do then :) to practice!
What is s&op? Do you have analytics experience?
Strat and ops. Can you elaborate more on analytics exp? I do excel with pivot tables lol and some sql
Excel and pivot is common for analyst roles outside of tech. Analysts within tech usually do a lot of SQL and power bi and tableau stuff in addition to interaction with business leaders. Agree with the below post, if you're getting to tech screens you have the right experiences on your resume, and maybe just need more practice. Try to see if any of your people in tech will give you mock interviews!
