First of all, congrats to FigmaMates, I would love to be in your shoes right now. As a consumer however, I hope antitrust prevails, but my wants and hopes are irrelevant here. While techies on Blind are celebrating on behalf of FigmaMates, techies on Twitter and Hacker News are talking about how anti-competitive this is and I think that chances are, this gets blocked just like all those other anti-competitive acquisitions. I know ppl like to say the FTC is toothless but I'm not sure if I'd agree. We've come a long way from the days when Meta bought Instagram, and that was only a $1b deal. Lina Khan's #1 priority is breaking up big tech, I think her dissertation essay was on breaking up Amazon. She blocked Nvidia from acquiring ARM and I think Nvidia had to pay a $1b fee to ARM as a result. FTC is not the only obstacle either, the UK blocked Meta from buying Giphy and is now looking into Microsoft and Activision.
Itโs done already
Lol. It's done the same way Plaid and Visa was done.
The difference is that chips and payment tech is crucial to the USAs infrastructure, whereas design software isnโt. I bet the blizzard deal closes without much delay. And meta canโt buy an ice cream cone without the FTC investigating them
Will pass State, Justice & Commerce at Capitol Hill and all authorities in Japan, UK, EU, Taiwan & SKorea Sadly will be blocked by Shyna
Ligma? Just like to say it ๐
