Crossed a line with my boss
Hey was wondering if I can get sacked for not informing the manager. Will be going to a conference and will present my ideas about the future and what was I doing lately. Nothing company specific but everything related to OSS being used. I’ll mention that I work at Cisco though.
I don't think manager will stop you. Just inform him and go. You are anyways using Cisco as your brand there.
Inform the manager and add it as a goal to get credit
Not sure if you can get sacked but it may be a policy violation. Not sure why you would want that.
here’s the thing: you’re probably breaking company policy by doing this. yes, you can be fired for this. usually each company has a process for this and they need to vet what you are going to say (PR department does this) if they are okay with you doing this.
I would let company know if you are going to mention where yoh work or speak anything that remotely relates to your work.
You should absolutely let your manager know and also legal review your presentation.
Probably not, but PR would appreciate letting them know, esp if you introduce yourself as a Cisco employee (you effectively represent the company at this particular meeting).
