I've been contacted by a recruiter for SETI at Google. While I am an engineer with many years of experience, none of that has been related to building testing tools. My question is two-fold. 1. How important is my expertise in that area? 2. How does it compare to product-based development work? Do you enjoy it?
I am a Google SETI. Personally I like the job - it's sometimes thankless but meaningful. Just be prepared that some would consider SETI "less" than SWE. Compensation -wise not so much difference though
What do you like about it? What type of things are you doing on a "typical" day?
SETIs are in high demand so it's somewhat easier to get into big product areas. Everything I do has been developer facing, infra for continuous build & testing, etc. Launches are all internal so things move faster
Seti? Like search for aliens seti?
No, it's testing engineers.
Its glorified testing. People who dont get as swe join it as seti. dont join.
Google has TE's who are doing testing, so I'm not sure why SETI is considered glorified testing.
Is your statement based on experience specifically with Google, or the industry in general?
