Curious I’ve always done it over the phone but never had much look with it. I read you should do it for email as it provides a paper trail as well as gives better time to formulate a response. What is better in terms of salary negotiations ?
Always in person if at all possible, live over the phone if not. State your case and most importantly what new opportunities you see in the role moving forward and how you plan to seize them for you, your mgr and your company.
Back in 2000 I did it in person right when I got hired. Asked the CEO of for a number, got approved. The CEO had someone look up whether they could pay that, and I thought it was just gamesmanship, but it turned out that they really were expecting to pay about 20% less than I asked for (30k to the 36k I wanted). I didn't know that and benefited from my ignorance!
What kind of job is this? For swe this is kind of shitty even for 2000.
Not a SWE. Finance back office.
Combination thereof
Never by phone. Recruiters are professional negotiators, you simply loose unless you have experience in it.
How do you transition to email from phone. Usually they call to give verbal offers
Agreed. I've tried it twice and I realized I couldn't beat the recruiters in negotiating. I will always do it via email starting with my next job.
