Do you support the "availability status" private/hidden in your office chat app?

I'm a new grad and need to approach folks to understand the system that have built for the last 4-5 years. To some level I'm dependent on them for the context/business/tech. But I see some folks just maintain their availability status as "private" and then they barely reply... Wtf!! Been 2 hrs of work on Monday morning, already so toxic!! Do you support such a private availability status? What's the need for such a status? This is a workplace and not your private life that your boyfriends upset and you hide your dp. Have some professional curtosy!😢 Struggling to deliver a 2 pointer for a sprint as a new grad and these #uckers won't reply me in the chat. I understand people need private status for whatsapp or Skype for their perosnal business. But why in office/workplace?

It is the curse of the WFH for new grads.

Wouldn't schedule a meeting with them cc'ing your team lead/tech lead as optional be better?

I keep my status private all the time. I need uninterrupted spans of work time. If you aren't sure if it's worth interrupting me, email me or schedule a meeting. If it is, you can still message me, but you have to use your judgement. Too many PMs and new grads think "free" means "available to chat".

Let people ping you every hour and see if you change your mind about this

Try to list all the questions you have and schedule a meeting at the end of the day to clarify your doubts. This will help instead of interrupting regularly and prep you for next day. If nobody is willing to help you then you might have to take this to your manager.
