Why is it so G*damn difficult to move money out of India
So when they report numbers or when questioned by government, they can show that they interviewed elder people too. But me and many of my friends all said that once they get past 40 or 45, a lot more companies just interview them and never hire them. (unlike before when they were young).
That’s tough. If you’re 45, should you be interviewing for mid-level engineering role? Or should you be interviewing for upper-level technical leadership role? How successful would you be coming into a new company in that role without a network? You’ll be at a disadvantage to the others in those upper roles.
actually, what you said sound like the "practical world" or the "cruel practical world". I like programming as a craft, so I never wanted to do people management or "leadership role" (although, some managers I had, they were technically not as good as me, but they were already the manager and they might have got in early or they got in through a network). It might be true, if I am 40 or 45 and only go in as a senior software engineer, the 25 year old who know the code for 2 years already may see me as as the same level and "do not know the code" so well as her, and she may bully or look down on me. There are also sometimes a group of people who move to one company as a group, and they will gang up and bully me. It is true that I can be at a disadvantage. In some companies it is very true. In some companies it is better. And sometimes as a contractor, it is even worse. I didn't get bullied until one year later when a contractor teamed up with a 25 year old regular FTE to bully me. It is a bit said it is like a group of animals battling each other. Maybe I should be satisfied that the coworkers are just cold with each other and not battling with each other.
Wow, first time I'm an elder...I can say that at 45, every interview I did, I got an offer. On the other hand when I was part of interviewing older candidate there is a little subtle agism on the part of my managers, however we extended offers to the good candidates
like, you interviewed with FB / Amazon / Google and every time you got an offer? And every single company you interview with, you get an offer? Then you must be quite exceptional... sometimes, I might interview with a company, and they'd told me they liked me as a programmer but they actually wanted somebody who has used a certain framework and hit the ground running so they'd like to look for such a candidate
I'm 44 and interviewed with MSFT, FB, G, and one other. I got offers from all but MSFT, but in that case they ended up reorganizing the team so the role went away. These were all for management positions, which does make a difference.
