I will be made an offer by ARM India. I was called up today by the HR and was asked for the following list of documents to make an offer to me: Latest 3 Months Pay-slips Latest Increment/Appraisal Letter/Offer Letter of current company ETrade PDF doc expanded version showing clear vest schedule date and total numbers unvested till date. My views: First, incredibly intrusive. Second, I am currently working for Intel and I think that my pay is under-market pay. However, with my salary info, it leverages them to make only a proportional offer, and not the offer they would have made to another person with higher salary in another company. How do I get around this problem? Please chime in with your views. This would be my second job, so I have no experience with such a scenario. I understand such documents are required to verify my credentials, but that can also be done after the offer is made and not before. #interview #compensation #ARM
No need to share anything. Ask her first offer and negotiate.
Tried doing that, did not work out well. I think its a problem in India. I have explained what happened in the next comment.
Decline, complain to the most senior person you can find in the group you are talking to.
The most senior person in the group told me that this is the standard procedure, and he expressed displeasure that I was not following suit. Also, the HR had asked for competing offer info. When I presented that info, the senior manager thought I was trying to start a bidding war! I think the HR is feeding bad info to the technical senior person who is in charge of hiring.
Well, Interviewed in Multiple companies over the last couple of months. Everyone asked for this info. I told the Samsung HR the same thing, that i wont we sharing this intrusive info. She didnt get back to me with an offer after that. I was forced to share that info after that. I would suggest applying to other companies and get a counter offer as well. This will help during negotiation
I feel it’s just a tactic to keep market salaries low. Just add 20% to previous salary. Lazy HRs.
in Microsoft, I have to do a lot of discussions on just the documents i submitted as a proof. That took a whole week. I was just keeping my cool with the HR somehow. Google was the nicest one, didnt ask for lot much, just the screenshot of just counter offer numbers

I woke up worried thinking I was late to our 9am standup, it was just 745 and it was a Saturday
Nothing can be done. As far as i know the offer is handled by Indian HR counterparts, so they follow as others. They already have a good data points already, from previous candidate and joined candidates who had submitted their offer letters. Mention your expected salary when sharing
Thanks for the advice. It really feels like they want to outsource their job of understanding fair-market salary levels onto the applicants. At the most, I plan to disclose the amounts asked along with my expected salary, without the actual documents which has a lot more personal info. I understand they need that for background verification, but that happens only if both parties tend to agree on the offer. So I intend to send those only during that time.
You can tell them that too. You can also hide your personal info if you want though. You may have to share it anyway in the end.
