We had to evacuate b/c the building structure is deemed unsafe. Our HoA refused to pay for our relocation. We have been outside of our own unit for more than a month now, and they don't have a clue when it will be done. Is the HoA obligated to pay for relocation of unit owner due to structural issue with the building?
Not an expert, but U'd think Insurance would pay, not HOA itself. HOA is responsible for logistics of maintenance and repairs, I doubt any kind of relocation expenses is part of HOA budgeting. Especially if there is some structural damage, then its definitely insurance (if you have any).
You mean our own insurance or the building's insurance?
We had a fire in our building a few years ago, the building was evacuated and unit owners were displaced for 18 months. The building itself had insurance and by Illinois law all unit owners also have insurance. Relocation and temporary living was handled by a mix of both the broader insurance plan on the building and the individual unit owners.
Oh whoa. Our insurance agent State Farm said thay they are not responsible for this either.
no
There is not enough info to determine for sure. My gut feeling is that the HOA do not need to pay for your private home repairs, even if it is a structural problem. HOA is more for periodic maintenance (lawn, roof) and such.
Check your state laws. HOA's are parasites
You...are the hoa assuming you are referring to the home owner. Did you mean insurance (which is sometimes paid through the hao)? If so probably depending on your policy.
I meant the HoA itself
Then no, why would your neighbor pay for your housing? What is broken and why isn't insurance covering it?
