I used to work in the space years ago. Do companies still buy a bunch of IBM or HP servers and EMC storage and all of that or is it all moving to cloud? It doesn't seem like it but those companies are still doing alright so they must be. TC - $270k
Only one DC? No way. Twitters also on prem
That I get could make sense because I assume you guys are building out your own scale out and cluster DCs, right? Same architecture as the hyperscalers.
Still a lot of growth in on prem .. the cloud isn't always the right answer for online processing, high ingress/ egress .. it just doesn't make sense financially in a lot of cases to move to the cloud except to burst
My previous company runs one the largest private clouds in the world. So yes lots and lots of dell/hp servers.
Why did they run it on prem?
Telco cloud has traditionally been problematic on public cloud.
I work in medical devices. Most of our data is on prem cos of HIPAA regulations. Need to de-identify before it can be uploaded to cloud
Isn't every cloud HIPAA certified?

Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
Just interviewed at a place still use all on prem. In my consulting projects, lots of non tech companies are still on prem
Wild. I bet a lot of the old school companies are not going to go to cloud via IaaS, they are going to go via SaaS as all of the application providers, except SAP, are all native SaaS now.
