Companies want to hire candidates who fit their culture. But they also want diversity. How is it possible? If they only want to hire those who fit their culture, they are basically saying"f*ck diversity". If they want diversity, they must hire those who don't share the same culture.
Note that culture fit means different things between organizations. It doesnt mean “exclude people that didnt play rugby and lacrosse”, but sometimes it does manifest itself that way. Good luck
“Culture fit” : It’s used by managers to mange people out
Diversity is a made up creation for minority special interests who are large enough to wield power. You don’t see people with moles on their noses getting any representation even though they are discriminated against.
They don't have to be at odds. What if the culture itself is about eschewing meritocracy for the sake of ticking boxes?
Two different concepts. For example at FB you’re expected to “move fast” on projects as part of culture fit. But that has nothing to do with hiring diverse employees. But you are correct that sometimes culture fit can be used as an excuse for poor diversity.
Here is an example: Microsoft has a culture of being huge dipshits but hiring diverse won't magically fix that.
So you can see that diversity and culture fit are not at odds with each other.
Diversity is referring to the people. (Race, Religion, Sex, Origin) Culture is referring to the company values - Move fast, data driven, Etc
Those who fit the company values tend to come from similar backgrounds. Most of those who are able to move fast and data driven tend to have graduated from top tier schools where the majority of population are white and Asian. So it's defeating the purpose of diversity.
Of course not. Culture fit could be hiring someone who works hard and likes to collaborate with others. Diversity is hiring to have a range of race, sex, thought etc....
By definition, yes
Unless the diversity was superficial, which, is the type that most universities and companies care about
Bro no correlation between the two!
How? Those who fit the culture mostly come from the same culture background. So isn't it defeating the effort to create a diverse work environment?
It’s the company’s work culture. Not culture of the country where the company is located. No correlation.
