I'm debating multiple job offers. Let's assume typical analytics/data science job responsibilities for each company. The consulting company likely means more worse work/life balance, 10% higher pay, and possibly looks better on your resume. Is it worth choosing the consulting company? Other companies: - Indeed - USAA - Volkswagen #tech #consulting #companyculture #worklifebalance
We get the crappiest candidates from consulting companies like Accenture. 99% end up getting rejected. From that list I would pick Indeed.
Haha wow
I used to work for a Big 4 Consulting firm within Tech Consulting and my advice is if you want to stay as a software engineer do not go to Consulting firm I worked with many incapable managers who didn't even know that Java and JavaScript are two completely different languages and are great at selling & doing presentations but have minimal technical knowledge. Similarly the senior devs that I worked with were unbelievable, I would not call them senior at all and I dare say they would not survive at a real tech company. However it is possible that each team is different and if you got a good feeling at your interviews then maybe you found a good team. Otherwise I would advise not to go there. Do you know anyone who works there and can vouch for the culture? Also curious what large non-tech companies you are comparing with here. For example if they are high street banks they might have a stronger environment and probably can pay higher salary. Though culture might not be the best either.
Added companies up top. I'm in data analytics/data science.
The same applies for the data analytics or data science team. Did they tell you what tech stack they use? You'd be lucky if they actually make you do any real coding.
The recruiters at my company love candidates from big 4. Maybe they’re good for BA jobs, but the generally fail our product interviews. That said, I did have a couple tread product managers work for me from the big 4. I think they were the exceptions
Sounds like the big 4 has the stereotype of improving your soft skills/management skills. As for tech skills, it's often better elsewhere.
Consulting companies in any shape or form is the WORST
You only go to a consulting company to be a management consultant, and eventually be a PM or bizops. Or actual ops / government affairs

No way for anyone to answer without more information about these non tech companies
Added company names.
Indeed is not a non tech company. That is easily the best on a resume out of those listed. I highly recommend taking indeed over the other 3.
