Domestic Sanctions for Women’s Rights

I believe US companies should begin to close operations, including customer accounts, in states that have or intend to ban abortions in coming months. Our democracy can’t help this, perhaps not for a generation. If states want all the pleasures of a modern society, they must grow up and behave like one. These states would immediately fold if a company like Comcast or if major banks started offboarding customers. #bankofamerica #wellsfargo #google #netflix #robinhood #microsoft #patagonia #comcast #facebook #meta #goldmansachs #citibank

I support this idea but NO ONE is going to do it.

DoorDash 🥷 bjorn May 4, 2022

Yeah right. Corps would give up business for something that doesnt directly impact them and risk govt retaliation of some sort.

Salesforce S NuteIIa May 4, 2022

Hrm... You're saying the Party of Small Government and Business Freedom would get their panties in a twist and litigate to force businesses to operate in states they don't want to? Hrm.. that actually sounds about right.

DoorDash 🥷 bjorn May 4, 2022

They may not force them to operate where companies dont want to but whats to say companies can still operate where they want to?

Amazon at_meta May 4, 2022

They're doing business. They don't bring moral into Money. Expect some virtue signalling at max. And if you're so much for being self-righteous then be correct on Blind Morals : TC or GTFO!!

We don’t even know if the decision is out yet, relax. Let’s see what they say not jump to conclusions

You’re the only undemocratic idiot here. Don’t you believe in the Judicial system? That’s why there is one.

Twitter newmeee May 4, 2022

I believe the judicial system has one iota of authority for every word Amy Coney Barrett had to write down during her confirmation hearing. Are you forgetting that 3/9 justices were installed by a president who never won popular vote with a senate representing the overwhelming minority of the US? Arguably the senate maneuver of pocket vetoing a nomination in 2016 is illegal, especially since the same precedent did not apply in 2020. I don’t want the judiciary authority to be undermined, but it was, perhaps irreparably

Freddie Mac qPUe75 May 4, 2022

The judiciary is becoming just as much of a joke as the legislative branch

Living in a democratic republic like the US means not everything will go your way in every state. States have a right to pass laws their citizens want. If a company won’t do business there another company will take their place.

Apple phase May 4, 2022

Yeah, let's punish ordinary people - the customers - for (hypothetical) government actions we don't agree with. Makes perfect sense, right? /s

Twitter newmeee May 4, 2022

^ this is a great point. Generally in a republic the people should be responsible, but our political system is so far highjacked that ordinary citizens have no say. Furthermore the people this “proposal” punishes most are the ones who suffer most already.

Apple phase May 4, 2022

The courts are also the branch of government that's least democratic/representative of the people

Fitch Ratings NOTatFitch May 4, 2022

And lose money? I don’t think so. Newsflash Money >>>>>>>>>>>>> basic human rights in this country

Google lodu-ramu May 4, 2022

What a dumb idea Should corps also shut down in states/cities with housing shortage? Housing is also a basic human requirement.

Amazon cbcudiw May 4, 2022

Extremely ignorant post. You do realize we buy all of our products from China right? And China bans abortions for any reason other than medically necessary? The only countries that actually allow abortion are EU/CA/US. And EU/CA don’t produce exports. In what world would it make sense to shut off all businesses domestically for states with abortion restrictions (including banking services) but still do any business internationally.

Amazon vevwvwt May 4, 2022

In addition EU has more restrictions than US. This is why we can’t let the left have power and trample on our rights. They made us wear masks and threatened to fire us if we didn’t get their jabs. They seek to punish and subjugate those who disagree with them. Radicals cannot be negotiated with, it’s their way or they want to impose punishment for non-conformance without due process.

Salesforce S NuteIIa May 4, 2022

Wow the audacity of calling OP ignorant and saying the only countries that a actually allow abortion are EU/CA/US" when Mexico is more free than Texas. China doesn't ban abortions - they are "discouraged", but there is no Texas style punishment for anybody getting or performing an abortion. Japan allows abortion up to 21 weeks. Russia still has state provided abortions. Indians can just say "I'm too poor to have a baby" and get an abortion up to 20 weeks, 24 with additional burden of proof. Tunisia has unrestricted abortions up to 90 days EU is super restrictive with abortions (Poland has a ban, but I guess they're not Chinese so you don't care). Turkish hospitals can refuse to perform an abortion just because Erdogan things abortion is wrong. Italy only allows abortion to 90 days, and doctors can again just say no because of religion. TIL china, India, Tunisia are in the EU or US and Texas, Italy and Poland are ... Somewhere else
