I’m lucky for the TC ($260K L4) but this is one of the top shittiest places I’ve ever worked as far as management and seniors go. Every senior dev leaves nitpicks like they love the smell of their own asshole in the morning. Like they shit excellence and piss flawless code. They can’t just explain their improvements. No, they gotta throw the book at you and leave condescending remarks explaining what binary means, SPA, interfaces, or some horribly obvious shit like that, just to make you feel dumb. Doesn’t matter your seniority (as long as your “at” or “below” them). And these managers. I don’t know where to start. Google is the definition of “jerk nerds”. The old school types from the 90’s to early 00’s that I thought we were trying to get rid of. No wonder chicks don’t want to work here. Which speaking of, they don’t. I see probably 1 woman for every 20 guys. It’s pretty easy to tell when you can count in the lunch lines or going around the buildings. Wouldn’t be surprised if Google’s gender diversity numbers were falsified. Anyways, come here for the money, but don’t expect some atmosphere of academia where people will happily discuss technical design with you in good faith. People are out here to climb the ranks and step on anyone they can in the process.
Sad to hear this. I chose amazon over google last year, so far im loving my decision. My google interviewers were extremely condescending. Amazon pays more too

Signing bonus in first two years makes up for it. I imagine in normal years, you’re probably better off with a normal vesting schedule due to stock appreciation? But with the way the market has been post-pandemic, I’ve really appreciated the cash

Hahaha that’s a fair guess. It’s a combination of things. Toxic managers. Atypical loud colleagues who take an entire standup as an opportunity to sell their own achievements. Managers who let it happen because they know “the game” or just don’t care. PRs that don’t just include improvements, but take five paragraphs to explain what SPA means even though you’ve been a SPA dev for 10 years, and that they’re right because what they want “makes more sense”. Shit like that
