Not too long ago, democrats actually wanted controlled immigration to protect the US citizens. What happened since then?

Both sides want cheap, unskilled labor, as the economic conditions make it easy to profit off. The net effect is basically that it decreases wages for the poor. So no one cares to fix it. We could stop 90% of immigration today with a law saying asylum class immigration is now illegal. No more free pass to 1 year citizenship if you are from a favored country. Yet you never hear Republicans say this. They always say "Biden needs to shut down the border!" and "build the wall!". I get the sentiment but they never say what actually would fix it, asylum class immigration, because they don't want it fixed. Doesn't happen, because cheap unskilled labor makes companies richer. H1b gets brought up here a lot for skilled software jobs, but the reality behind expansion laws, is they want to flood states with cheap nursing labor to boost healthcare company profits.

Canada has very easy visa, like people said, 1 year college can get you in and working. Better than living elsewhere.
Godaddy: get off your high horse buddy, I lived in US then canada then US. Getting F1 visa is no harder than getting Canadian study permit. Canada doesn’t have a lot of white collar jobs and students/workpermit holders can work anywhere LEGALLY. That’s the only reason!!

Why right? Illegal immigration is wrong (by definition illegal per policy). How does op know if they are legal or illegal? If it was a bunch of white people waiting in line do you think this post would exist? I doubt it. Op’s post specifically says “this is how america will LOOK” and nothing about job market, economy, unemployment or 100 other things.

Agreed but it’s not true in 2024 anymore as they tightened rules. Same can be said for H1B too, except for lottery. Same can be said about green cards in US too, as fake job offers and PERMs and i140s are very common and instead of taking 6 months like Canadian PR, it takes 2 years. (unless you are Indian ofcourse)

Canada has more people than jobs. America has more jobs than people. Immigration is pretty low, Asian population like 6%. US can use more immigrants, there are plenty of jobs for them to do.
Actually true. The rich/upper middle class who invest in companies basically profit off exorbitantly cheap unskilled labor. Once I realized this I stopped caring. There's plenty of jobs paying $5-12/hr to go around in America. If the unskilled labor class complains you just tell them to learn to code.
In this economy, for tech jobs, supply exceeds demand. The H1B program needs to be adjusted accordingly until the market improves. This adjustment could be only accepting applications from certain job categories such as healthcare professionals.
You have to look at the context. The student visa program basically says if you finish 1 year of school you get a work permit. Lots of people came and there aren’t jobs
America and Canada have different goals when it comes to population because they have different playing fields. Comparison is pointless.
